Presidency Message
A Proper Time & Season
by Theresa M. Sneed
I took the opportunity at the beginning of June to take a couple of classes at Mesa Community College. I figured it'd be a "piece of cake". True to my nature, I really didn't think.
Did I think to check the total cost of this venture, including books? No. As a result our finances took a serious beating that month. Did I think about the real amount of time involved in taking two classes? No. I didn't think past the actual description of each class: 4 days a week, 2 to 2 1/2 hours per day per class.
I never thought about the extra 2-2 1/2 hours of reading time per day per class, or the hours spent on writing papers, doing research, and studying for daily quizzes and weekly, sometimes twice-weekly exams. Did I think about the commute and how much I truly detest driving in traffic, especially rush hour traffic? Nope. Not me. I didn't even think about the five hours between my two classes and how I'd have to drive there twice a day in that traffic.
SIGH...but here's what I did think about.
It may be expensive to increase my education, but I am learning things of great value to me. In the long run, it will pay off. And I'm worth it! Sure, it takes a lot of time, but it is indeed time well spent. And sometimes you have to drive through difficult places to get where you want to go. So, I just crank up a little Bach, put my "shoulder to the wheel," and push along.
Sisters, do all that you have to do in your proper time and season. Do not let life pass you by without taking good care of yourself in every way, in each and every day. Develop your talents, particularly your writing talents, by being willing to pay whatever the price, by taking all the necessary time, and by going the extra mile, wherever if it that you have to go.
All my love,
Theresa M. Sneed
