Daytimers Chapter Minutesreported by Pat FaasWith Joan Sowards accompanying, the group sang two of Margaret Turley's songs: "Daddy's Boots" and "Farm Lessons," then discussed some of their own ideas for nostalgic writing. Pat Faas recalled a story told by her mother about peeking into her father's lunch pail to see if any goodies were left. Joan suggested a writing exercise in nostalgia as a group project. The monthly lesson, given by Joan, was "Making Metaphors." We discussed a chapter from a book about writing better lyrics and then did some written exercises. Joan has written a new song, "Press Forward," that has been performed at three different events now, and is based on 2 Nephi 31:20. Pat shared a song she wrote to go with a Nursery lesson, "I Am Thankful for My Nose." "How can we stop and smell the roses if it weren't for our wonderful noses? A nose needs a rose like a rose needs a nose, so each can appreciate the other!" The next Daytimers Chapter meeting will be in August, due to the writer's retreat in July. Bring your writing, your ideas, or a rough draft to the meeting on August 11 at 10 a.m. at Pat's home. Also bring nostalgic items and snacks. Call (480) 967-0991 for information. |
